Sedation (Sleep) Dentistry (IV)

What is Sedation (Sleep) Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is helpful in making your dental visits more comfortable. We use IV sedation to help put you into a sleep-like state while in our office. We may recommend sleep dentistry if you’re having a complicated surgery or procedure done, or if you’re nervous or panicked to undergo treatment. Sedation is safe for all patients and is a great way to alleviate dental anxiety.

Why is Sedation (Sleep) Dentistry needed?

There are several reasons why sleep dentistry might be necessary. It’s safe for patients of all ages and varying medical needs. Some of the reasons you’d want to consider sleep dentistry include:

  • You’re nervous or panicked over visiting the dentist
  • You suffer panic attacks while undergoing treatment
  • You’re having extensive work done
  • You’ll be undergoing complicated oral surgery
  • You find it difficult to sit still for appointments
  • You’d rather not remember the procedure

What makes you a good candidate for Sedation (Sleep) Dentistry?

We will go over your health and medical history before any type of sedation is administered. Because sedation is monitored closely, it is often safe for patients of all ages. This means that both pediatric and adult patients alike can benefit from sleep dentistry. We may recommend this option for extensive, more complicated procedures.

What can you expect with Sedation (Sleep) Dentistry?

We first administer an IV into your arm that delivers safe, closely monitored sedatives. You will go into a sleep-like state while the procedure is done. Upon waking, we’ll take you to one of our recovery rooms where you’ll have a chance to wake up. It is important that you have a friend or relative bring you home from the procedure. It is unsafe to drive yourself until the effects of the sedative have fully worn off. You can request sedation at virtually any appointment in order to make your visits with us more calm and comfortable.
