What are Dentures & Partials?
A denture or partial is a type of prosthetic appliance that fills in areas of your smile where you’re missing teeth. Full dentures are a good option for patients who are missing an entire arch of their natural teeth. Partials are more suitable for patients who still have most of their natural teeth, but are missing enough to warrant a prosthesis. Both appliances can last for up to seven years before replacement is recommended.

Why are Dentures & Partials needed?
The reason you may need a denture or partial is that you’re already missing many of your teeth or you’re going to be having multiple extractions done. It’s not uncommon for patients who have severely advanced gum disease to be advised to have the remaining teeth removed and a denture placed. The goal of either type of prosthesis is to improve oral functioning, fill in the cheek area to prevent a sunken-in appearance, and boost your confidence in your smile.

What makes you a good candidate for Dentures & Partials?
To determine if you might need a denture or partial, we’ll perform an examination. This examination allows us to determine if you’d benefit from a prosthetic appliance. If any teeth need to be extracted, we’ll recommend having this done before being fitted for a denture. The procedure to make and fit you with a denture is easily done in our office.

What happens during the Denture & Partial procedure?
After any extractions are done, we will take impressions of your teeth and mouth. This allows us to create a brand new prosthetic that fits your mouth comfortably. You will then come into our office for a fitting. It’s not uncommon to need roughly five adjustments before the denture fits perfectly. Once the denture fits well, it’s important that you care for it by removing it at night and replacing it when needed.

If you think you might need dentures or partials, call our office today and we can get you in for a consultation appointment.
